Studio RTR were commissioned by Skipton BID to produce a short promotional film to promote Skipton (North Yorkshire) as a desirable place to visit, live, work and study. The film was commissioned by Skipton bid for Web and Social Media output, with a special screening at ‘The Movies Under the Stars’ drive in cinema event, hosted at Skipton Castle. We also created 6 short films for the individual businesses, which were shared on social media and all directed back to the main film. The film had over 4,000 views on Facebook within the first 24 hours of release.

This is a great place to add a tagline.

CAMPAIGN BREAKDOWN:

Studio RTR scheduled a couple of zoom meetings with Skipton BID to engage and determine the objectives and intended output of the campaign. From these meetings, we gathered an idea of the multitude of businesses in Skipton which enabled us to create a storyboard and creative direction for the film. The title ‘Your Gateway to The Dales’ is a play on Skipton’s association with being the gateway town for the dales.

 

Due to the Covid19 pandemic many businesses had to close their doors to the public. With this in mind and restrictions starting to ease, we envisioned the film to be Skipton metaphorically opening back up for business. Before hand, we liaised with each of the businesses involved, creating a good rapport, this is key for us as we want everyone to feel comfortable whilst on set and in trusted hands.

 

For each business we visited we created a ‘setting up’ scene, asking them what their normal routine would be before they welcome in the public. Here we had the Yoga studio setting out mats, the Canal Boats getting prepped to set sail, the fishmongers cleaning their stall, the horses being groomed, and the opening of the grand gates at Skipton Castle. With the progression of the music, we then begin to gain more of an insight into the businesses.

 

Movement was key in the film to create smooth transitions between the businesses. We achieved this by shooting on gimbal, slider and a drone. We were also keen to create a ‘hidden’ side of Skipton where the audience felt like they were creating a personal relationship with the independent businesses, we achieved this this by shooting on long lenses.
